Boston condos - Should you rent or buy?If you are considering Boston condos then you will have to make a decision regarding whether you want to buy a Boston condo or whether renting would be your best option. Of course there are many excellent condos to consider in the beautiful city of Boston and surrounding areas, and some will be available as just renters and others will only be available to buy. With this is mind you will have to choose whether you want to rent or buy before going out and looking, if you are willing to take either option then of course you will have many choices of the Boston condo suitable for you. Sometimes the decision can be a hard one and many are unsure of the advantages and disadvantages of buying a Boston condo or renting the property. First we will examine the advantages of buying a Boston condo, a condo is a single unit which is inside a condominium building and if you choose to buy a Boston condo then you will be the property owner of that unit. However in addition to being the sole owner of the Boston condo you will also be a joint owner of the rest of the condominium along with the other owners of sole units. What this actually means in plain and simple terms is that anything in the complex such as laundry rooms and swimming pool you will have a share in, along with your own Boston condo unit. As you own the condo you will be able to do anything in it such as decorating and remodeling and if you wish to leave and move to another state then you can put your Boston condo up for sale. However this can be time consuming and expensive and depending on the market at the time of selling. a condo can be hard to sell for a profit. Another downside to owing is that you would have to pay for any repairs to the unit and the complex such as the swimming pool and other areas to keep them in good condition. If you choose to rent a Boston condo then of course you are not the owner and as you are only renting you will not be able to remodel the condo and you might have to get permission to change the decoration. However while there are many restrictions on what you can and cannot do with the Boston condo you will not have to pay for any repairs or upkeep to the unit or the rest of the condominium complex. When you rent the Boston condo you will be paying rent on a monthly basis. If you want to move to another state and give up the Boston condo then you will have to give notice to the landlord. This can be anything from a month to 12 months, however after this you are free to pack up your belongings and move. There is no having to payout for estate agent fees and have the property valued, or waiting anxiously to sell the property for the price you want and worrying about a decline in the housing market. There are both and bad points to renting or buying a Boston condo and these of course have to be given some serious consideration before rushing in and making a mistake. Do research on what is available in the area you are interested in living in and look at the cost of renting versus buying and this should help you decide one way or the other. |
